Democratic Green Party of Rwanda End of Year Message and Aspirations for 2026

As the year 2025 draws to a close, the leadership of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR-Green Party) extends its profound gratitude to all party members and supporters for their unwavering commitment to patriotism, democratic participation, and the free and constructive expression of ideas. Your dedication continues to strengthen Rwanda’s democratic culture and environmental stewardship.

The Party leadership expresses its sincere appreciation to the National Consultative Forum of Political Organizations (NFPO) for its continued spirit of dialogue and cooperation among political organisations in Rwanda, and in particular for the election of Hon. Dr. Frank Habineza as a Senator of the Republic of Rwanda. This milestone reflects the growing confidence in inclusive politics and principled leadership.

We also commend the NFPO for its continued support and collaboration with political parties through various initiatives, including capacity-building and leadership training programs especially for the youth and women that promote unity, dialogue, and good governance.

At the international level, the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda warmly acknowledges the Global Greens Coordination for electing Hon. Dr. Frank Habineza as Co-Convenor of the Global Greens. This appointment is a recognition of Rwanda’s contribution to the global green movement and reinforces our Party’s commitment to international cooperation, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

Throughout 2025, the Party made significant progress in strengthening its internal structures nationwide. Comprehensive training programs were conducted for Party organs, women’s wings, and youth wings across all the 30 districts of the country. These trainings addressed key political and developmental themes, including Party ideology, environmentally sustainable income-generating projects, effective communication, and environmental conservation. Democratic leadership was further strengthened through the election of new party leaders at the Provincial and district level, including representatives of women and youth wing structures.

The Party also values the international exposure and capacity-building opportunities afforded to its leadership and members. Senior Party leaders participated in international training and meeting in Denmark upon invitation by the Green Left–SF Party. Additionally, ten Party members attended a regional training in Nairobi, Kenya, organized by the United Green Movement Party, while three others represented the Party at the Congress of the Green Party of Sweden. These engagements enhanced skills, solidarity, and the exchange of best practices within the global green family.

We further recognize the importance of youth political empowerment through the Youth Political Leadership Academy organized by the NFPO, which brought together young leaders from all legally recognized political parties in Rwanda. The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda was proudly represented by four young women and four young men.

During the year, DGPR representatives in both the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate continued to play an active and constructive role in legislative and policy debates. Their contributions focused on laws and public programs aimed at improving citizens’ welfare, strengthening democratic governance, and safeguarding the environment, many of which were widely communicated through national media.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda reaffirms its commitment to representing the interests and aspirations of the Rwandan people. The Party will intensify its advocacy efforts, engage the Government on reforms that enhance social well-being and environmental sustainability, and further consolidate its organizational structures. Capacity-building of members shall continue as well as strengthened partnerships with national and international stakeholders. The party shall continue preparations for upcoming electoral processes.

On behalf of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to all members, partners, supporters, and citizens who stand with us in advancing democracy, environmental protection, and the well-being of all Rwandans.

As we conclude this year, we wish you and your families a joyful festive season and a peaceful, prosperous, and hopeful New Year 2026.

Hon. Dr. Senator Frank Habineza

President, Democratic Green Party of Rwanda
