EULOGY FOR Mr. ADAMOU GARBA, Former President of the Greens of Niger and the African Greens Federation
Monday, 6 April 2026

It is with profound sorrow and a deep sense of loss that I extend my heartfelt condolences on the passing of our dear brother, colleague, and comrade, Adamou Garba, President of the Greens of Niger, who departed from us on Sunday. His passing is not only a loss to his family and nation, but to the entire African and Global Greens movement.
I had the distinct honour of working alongside Adamou Garba for many years—years marked by shared vision, struggle, and commitment to building a just, sustainable, and democratic future for our continent. Our journey together dates back to April 2008, when we were elected at the Second Global Greens Congress in São Paulo, Brazil, alongside Julian Mugure of Kenya, to represent Africa on the Global Greens Coordination. From that moment, Adamou distinguished himself as a principled, thoughtful, and deeply committed leader.

Together, we contributed to a historic milestone: the establishment of the African Greens Federation in April 2010 at the Kampala Congress. Adamou was instrumental in shaping the Federation into a strong and credible platform for ecological justice, democracy, and social justice across Africa. His leadership helped give voice to African environmental and democratic concerns on the global stage.
In 2018, Adamou succeeded me as President of the African Greens Federation. I could not have wished for a more capable and dedicated successor. He carried forward the mission with integrity, courage, and unwavering conviction, strengthening the movement and inspiring a new generation of Green leaders across the continent.
Beyond his political leadership, Adamou was a passionate environmentalist and an accomplished journalist. He understood the power of ideas and the importance of truth, and he used his voice to advocate for sustainability, accountability, and the protection of our natural heritage by advocating for the green belt in Niamey and a green Sahel region. His work reflected a rare combination of intellect, humility, and courage.

From 2008 to 2024, we served together on the Global Greens Coordination, representing Africa with unity and purpose. Throughout those years, Adamou remained steadfast, collaborative, and deeply respectful—a true brother in the struggle. His wisdom, calm demeanor, and unwavering dedication will be sorely missed.
Today, we mourn not only a leader, but a friend. His legacy will live on in the institutions he helped build, the values he championed, and the countless lives he touched. As we grieve, we also celebrate a life well lived—a life devoted to service, justice, and the protection of our planet.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
May his legacy continue to guide and inspire us.
With deepest sympathy,
Dr.Frank Habineza (Senator)
Global Greens, Co-Convenor
