The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR) organized the Kigali City party congress that was a platform to give contributions to the party manifesto and elect the parliamentary candidates from the city who will represent them in the next coming elections due in July 2024. The event was held on January 26th, 2024, in Gasabo district, Kigali. The elections brilliantly showcased youth and female leadership, where each district elected two candidates (a woman and a man) in order to give the opportunity to those from the city areas to train in their districts. This program will continue in all provinces of the country. Speaking at the event, the President of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda (DGPR), Hon. Dr. Frank HABINEZA, addressed different crucial issues faced by Rwandans, including what his party would do if given the chance to lead this country. He revealed that the actions taken were a foreshadowing of other activities that the party plans to do throughout the country. He said, “We started making the manifesto last year in September. We have a draft, and we are still receiving other opinions so that when we reach May, our manifesto will have different opinions from all Rwandans.” During the congress, leaders and other members have participated in contributing their ideas about the party manifesto that will help the party during the campaign period in the next coming elections. The ideas represented have come from different three districts of the City of Kigali. The opinions given by the party members will be improved by the manifesto team to go into the manifesto that will be finally approved in the national congress scheduled to be held in May 2024. In a significant gathering, the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda convened its first congress of 2024, fostering unity among the youth, women, and party members to deliberate on the party’s manifesto. Held on January 26th, 2024, in Kigali City, the Green Party congress for Kigali City served as a platform for diverse discussions covering justice, genocide ideology prevention, human rights, sports, and entertainment. During the congress, where members elected six Parlimanetary candidates representing the three districts of Kigali City and contributed ideas for the manifesto, a member of the party put forward a novel proposal, suggesting that every cell should have an entertainment site to provide people with access to sports and entertainment. The member emphasized the potential health benefits, stating, “This can reduce some non-communicable diseases and protect our bodies.” The idea received endorsement from the party president Hon. Frank Habineza, who further suggested that the party should organize a championship tournament across the country. “Incorporating sports and entertainment initiatives not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also strengthens the social fabric of our communities. As we come to the close of the year 2023, the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda wishes to appreciate all Rwandans and different State institutions for the great achievements reached. We also take on this opportunity to wish you all a happy and prosperous new year 2024. The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda, grew further in 2023, it is the year, we finally managed to establish the Party Women Wing and Youth Wing structures in all the four provinces of the country and the City of Kigali. This comes after the established of Youth and women structures in all the 30 districts of the country. In September 2023, we finally held a national youth congress and established the National Youth Greens League. The Young Greens also elected their national leaders and strengthened their structures at different levels. In December 2023, the Party was able to hold the national women congress and finally established the National Women Greens League after electing national women leaders. We also conducted trainings for those structures on different topics, including; party ideology, gender equality, democracy, elections and environmental protection. DGPR was also able to strengthen existing party structures at district level and members elected new leaders in some districts where it was necessary. In May 2023, the party was able to hold the national party congress, which brought together party leaders from all the 30 districts of the county and different provinces as well as the City of Kigali. Party members amended the party statutes and also elected members of the central executive committee. Party members also elected Dr.HABINEZA Frank as the party’s flag bearer [ Presidential candidate] in the upcoming presidential elections due in July 2024. We are hopeful that 2024, will equally be a great year, we shall continue to prepare ourselves for the upcoming general elections. We shall unveil the new political program and manifesto in a few months to come and equally confirm the parliamentary candidates.
